5476 Miles - Review

Thanks to Break Big Film Festival for the first (and very accurate flattering) review for 5476 Miles!

The Review

"This is a truly beautiful animation! I absolutely loved the hand-made, crafted feel – you can truly sense the magic. The almost painterly frames remind of the recent feature “Song of the Sea”: “5476 miles” balances the same strong visuals and emotional story duo. You were spot on, nailed every single little bit which clearly indicates a strong inclination for detailed visual storytelling. The colours and lighting are well-balanced, your characters charming and the rhythm and visual flow incredibly entertaining. I watched it twice, enough said!
Points to consider:
  • I don’t know if you work in animation professionally, but you should consider it! I think there is an audience out there for this sort of work and with a good story to tell you could reach millions.
  • Is there any chance of professionally mastering the song as for the moment the quality between the video and the music recording is clearly different, making the two seem somewhat detached?
  • I loved the tiny bits of obvious humour inserted into this somewhat sad story, like the cow hitting the guy’s cage. This is definitely an aspect you should consider expanding in your work, without of course letting it take over."

Last words

Hopefully that made you want to watch it again, or for the first time if you haven't seen it (and we need to reevaluate our friendship). So conveniently, here it is.

Filmmaking ofcourse, isn't just about having nice things said about you... But that being said, engaging and entertaining people is what makes all the messing around with paper long hours and hard work, more than worthwhile.

P.S. The song actually was professionally mastered by this guy!
